Formula
Area = Length x Width
Volume = Area x Depth
Bags Required = Volume / Bag Coverage
The calculator uses 0.075 cubic meters per bag for bag estimates. Depth is the planned mulch thickness, not the height of the edging.
Example Calculation
Example: A homeowner is mulching a 12 ft x 6 ft front bed at 3 inches deep. Area = 72 sq ft. Depth is 0.25 ft. Volume = 18 cubic ft, or 0.67 cubic yd. If each bag covers about 2 cubic ft, the project needs about 9 bags before rounding for uneven spots.
