How does this calculator work?
Step 1: enter the total fence run and maximum post spacing. Step 2: the calculator divides the length into sections. Step 3: it rounds up to full sections and adds the post needed at the end of the run.

Fence Sections = Ceiling(Fence Length / Maximum Post Spacing)
Posts Required = Fence Sections + 1
Fence length is the measured run. Maximum spacing is the largest allowed distance between posts for the chosen fence style.
Example Calculation
Example: A homeowner is planning an 80 ft straight fence with posts no more than 8 ft apart. Sections = 80 / 8 = 10. Posts required = 10 + 1 = 11 posts. Gates, corners, and terminal posts may add more posts depending on the layout.
