How does this calculator work?
This flooring calculator works by first calculating the total floor area by multiplying room length by width. It then adds the selected waste percentage to account for cuts, mistakes, and future repairs. The default waste allowance is 10%, which is standard for most installations.
Formula
Floor Area = Room Length × Room Width
Required Flooring = Floor Area × (1 + Waste Percentage ÷ 100)
Boxes/Rolls Needed = Ceiling(Required Flooring ÷ Coverage per Box)
Example Calculation
For a room that is 5 meters long and 4 meters wide with 10% waste: Floor Area = 5 × 4 = 20 sqm. Required Flooring = 20 × 1.10 = 22 sqm. If each box covers 1.86 sqm, you would need 22 ÷ 1.86 = 12 boxes.
